==> MY CHURCH and MY STATE ==> updated on 12july2011

A little background… the president have always said even before he was elected into power that he would support the passage of the RH Bill(Reproductive Health Bill) in an effort to curb the population explosion in the country. In essence what it says is, the state will provide and make available all safe and acceptable means of birth control to its citizens(in particular the marginalized and the poor) and that includes condoms, birth control pills and I think even tubal ligation and vasectomy IF they choose to have it. as a result of this stand by Pnoy, he has been targeted by the sharp tongues and redicule of some Catholic Church leaders. They took turns taking potshots at him, some were even calling for his excommunication. meanwhile, a scandal broke out only this week, when PCSO(Philippine Charity and Sweepstakes Office) released a report by COA(Commission on Audit) stating that some Bishops and some diocese of the Catholic Church received millions of pesos in donations from the administration of Gloria Arroyo using PCSO funds *is there no end to the litany of wrongdoings by this shameless woman?* anyway, what scandalized the nation is apparently, some of these donations were directly solicited by some bishops to buy 4X4 SUV vehicles for “the diocese” but in reality, for their personal use. This very same bishops who only a few years ago, when practically the entire nation was calling for the resignation of the very same Gloria Arroyo, refused to heed that call inspite the very serious allegations hurled against her of breaking the laws of God and man. What makes matters worse is that PSCO money is Public Funds and under the law that governs it, it cannot be used or cannot be given to any religious denomination… Cory Aquino has long been a staunch supporter and loyal follower of the church and its teachings and her judgement calls were more often than not supported by the church specially during the leadership of Cardinal Sin. Unfortunately for her, a few years ago, at the height of the “hello Garci” scandal and believing that there are serious legitimacy issues raised against the sitting president, Cory called for the resignation of GMA and many were puzzled why her call was not supported by the CBCP(Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines). As a result, she was vilified by some quarters, calling her stand irresponsible and baseless. Sadly, years after her death, its now clear why the CBCP left her in the lurch at that crucial time in our country’s history.

Recent events have put my beloved church in the spotlight and something tugged at my heartstrings urging me to write about this unwanted attention being focused on the church. No, not to add to the bashing it has already been subjected to BUT to urge the church to do a self-reflection to save the institution. I feel that sweeping the controversial issues under the rug is a great disservice to an institution I so love. That for the church not to address them in the most appropriate manner is putting its moral authority over its flock at risk as it may ultimately make our church useless and immaterial in the future. *heaven forbid I hope it never happens* im constantly reminded by visions of those grand yet empty churches in Europe and I cringe at the thought of that happening here.

They say that the money or the vehicles was for apostolic work and social services, not bribe. a toyota grandia, a mitsubishi montero, an izuzu crosswind to be used for social services??? People, were not a bunch of dummies here and dumb is an adjective that im sure is NOT a description we would associate with our church leaders. We do not need an IQ of a genius to know that there is something wrong here, somewhere. And for one of them to say, “why are we being singled out?” is, is, is… OH My God, and I mean OMG, is that suppose to be their defence??? To translate that in the vernacular, it is even more clear that the act is morally objectionable at the very least : “bakit kami lang???” It is an admission of guilt! They clearly know it is wrong and yet the call of and for worldly pleasures got the better of them. they are insinuating that they are being singled out because of the catholic church’s strong opposition to the administrations call for the passage of the verry controversial RH Bill. For the sake of argument, granting that it is true, does that make what they did right??? my dear bishops of the catholic church, the issue here is not about the RH Bill, as far as that is concerned my position is, let the people decide for themselves if they want to use artificial contraceptives or not, that is between them and their God. the state is not forcing them to use it, they are just making it available for them. the issue here is the acceptance and solicitation of public funds for personal use by some of your members. The very same people who are suppose to be the guardian of our morals... that is the issue!!!

the catholic church has a long history here and abroad for covering up misdeeds of members of the church hierarchy. I say, enough of that!!! I call and demand that those who consider themselves responsible and righteous leaders of our church to once and for all show us your strong leadership anchored on morally strong grounds and foundation. Acknowledge the wrongdoings of some of your members and apologize for it. there's no shame in admitting youre wrong and rectifying your mistakes. I for one do not expect my church leaders to be saints BUT I would most definitely expect them to clearly define what is right from wrong. For them not to say anything, skirt the issue and make irresponsible and preposterous statements is the same as condoning the wrong acts. Who do we expect to teach us on issues about morality but our church, the very institution responsible in guiding our values according to the teachings of Jesus Christ himself.

I have long been holding my horses, trying my very best not to write about my church despite all these controversies it had gotten itself embroiled into. I have a tendency to loose myself when im writing and I was afraid that I might write something disrespectful as I address this issue in writing. As the institution that taught me about God and his teachings, I have always held MY Church in high regard despite knowing its not a perfect institution. To me whatever its imperfection lies to a large extent on a few members of its leadership and not on the church itself. What makes my faith in my church strong is because I look at beyond the personalities involved. The Catholic church cannot be defined by a few bad eggs in the hierarchy. In my heart I know that there are more incorruptible, upright and humble unnamed individuals within the catholic church who do their apostolic work discreetly and yet effectively and we may have not heard of them only because they “do not want to let the right hand know what the left hand is doing”, which is just the way I like good deeds to be done. There’s no way that im just going to sit here in silence while a few that belongs to the tribe of “Padre Damaso” further disgrace themselves and drag down the entire Catholic Church with them.

==> UPDATE
12july2011

halleluja, thank you dear bishops for seeing the light :D i knew that my faith in my church is not misplaced and that discerning and upright members of the CBCP will prevail against the misguided and confused members of your organization. in their pastoral letter entitled "A Time of Pain, A Time of Grace"(very aptly titled if i may say so myself :p), let me share with you some parts of that letter and please excuse those side comments in italic and in parenthesis,those comments are MINE...sorry i couldnt help myself i just have to butt in :p anyway, as i was saying...

...here are some interesting parts of their pastoral letter...
our bishops said, “… We are sorry for the pain and sadness that these events have brought upon you,” ... “We assure you that the bishops concerned are ready to accept responsibility for their action and to face the consequences if it would be proven unlawful, anomalous, and unconstitutional". The bishops admitted the issue “deeply wounded” the Church causing confusion among the Catholics “because of the apparent inconsistency of our actions with our pastoral preaching.” (exactly! again, i couldnt agree with that statement enough :p)

...here's an intriguing part of that pastoral letter... “Some members of the Church believe in the innocence of the bishops involved in the issue, while others do not(hurray!!! whoever you are :p). There is no doubt that everywhere in the Church there is great sorrow,” (hmmm, i would have loved to be in that CBCP meeting to observe the proceedings, my imagination is running riot at the thought of how they expressed their thoughts on this issue. were voices raised??? was anybody reprimanded??? who's sincerely apologetic and who remained defiant??? i can only speculate, speculate and speculate , chismosa much! :p)

...and my favorite part of the pastoral letter... “We express again our deep sorrow for the pain that the recent events have brought to you our beloved people. The good Lord knows our love for you.”

well done! although... i suggest to the members of the prelate who may be sympathetic to those who are right smack in the middle of this scandal, to please for crying out loud, refrain from issuing comments that could undermine the goodwill created by this pastoral letter. i could STILL hear some of them making excuses for their embattled colleagues. while i understand that you may not want to leave them in the lurch by publicly denouncing their actions, it doesnt serve them and OUR CHURCH well if you continue your role as their apologists. i have always believed that A SINCERE APOLOGY OFFERS NO EXCUSES!!!

==> DANGEROUS WATERS Part 1

" WHAT IS OURS IS OURS AND WHAT IS DISPUTED CAN BE SHARED”

Albert del Rosario
Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary
23June2011

A brief information before I get started… There is such a thing called the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). it is an international agreement that defines the rights and responsibilities of nations in their use of the world's oceans, establishing guidelines for businesses, the environment, and the management of marine natural resources. This includes the so called Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs). These extend from the edge of the territorial sea out to 200 nautical miles from the baseline. Within this area, the coastal nation has sole exploitation rights over all natural resources.

Where do I begin to explain the history of this conflict? I don’t think I want to go on the details of the claims of each country involved, that’s too long and im not in the mood for a history lesson right now. actually, im not going to be Miss know-it-all here and pretend to know the "hows" and "whys" and "wheres" of each claimant country, because i dont know all their issues. Besides, as far as the Philippines is concerned, this latest controversy has nothing to do with THE SPRATLY(Kalayaan Islands)issue! *that last sentence will be explained in the next paragraph* I am writing about this because one of the two parties involved in this hostilities is none other than the Philippines and the other party is …oh just a country called, People’s Republic of China. Yes Juan de la Cruz, it’s the Philippines versus China! They claim that the whole of The South China Sea has been theirs as per historical records. HUWATTT??? THEY OWN THAT ENTIRE BODY OF WATER AND EVERYTHING ON IT??? Hehe…that’s a first! In that case, since the entire eastern Philippines is bordered by the Pacific Ocean and no country has claimed ownership of that body of water yet, instead of claiming the 200 nautical mile Philippine Sea, why don’t we just claim the entire Pacific Ocean as ours and change its name to Philippine Ocean? ^^ kidding aside, even Vietnamese maps I believe refer to this body of water as East Sea. Its actually the early European explorers that gave the name South China Sea to differentiate it from other bodies of water in that area.

What started this latest irritant is the harassment made by some Chinese patrol vessels over at Reed Bank where a seismic and geological survey is underway in preparation for gas and oil exploration in the area. They threatened to ram a Philippine sanctioned vessel. They claim that Reed Bank is Chinese territory because it is part of Spratly Islands which they claim in whole. Reed Bank is just 80 nautical miles off Palawan so it is clearly within OUR 200 nautical mile exclusive economic zone(EEZ). Now, if there is such a thing as UNCLOS and EEZs, Philippine ownership of Reed Bank shouldn’t even be an issue right? If only people adhere to the rule of law or international law we wouldn’t be having this military skirmishes between nations right? Well, in Utopia maybe, where everybody lives in harmony, BUT, in the real world there are rogue states and there are plain honest-to-goodness bullies who loves to throw their weight around to the detriment of lightweights such as us *sob, sob* Incidentally, the permit/contract for gas exploration was granted to a British company only recently because under Gloria Arroyo’s term, she included Reed Bank in a Joint Marine Seismic Undertaking (JMSU) with China in 2004. Gloria, yes, our notorious former president, practically gave China the excuse to lay claim to an area that up until then was never a disputed area. Clearly, Gloria sold us to the Chinese in exchange for a few billion dollars worth of loans that very likely ended up in her pocket anyway AND just as clear is that, this belated claim by the Chinese stem from their interest in Reed Bank’s perceived gas and oil reserves. Hello, just because they are an emerging superpower it does not follow that we have to toe the line when you say so and agree to evrything that you say. Hello again, this is the Philippines and we are the oldest democracy in this part of the world! We may not have a perfect democracy but by god I will take it anytime over what they have there! Who’s with me, Am I right or what?

Since its common knowledge here and in the international community that we have a non-existent navy, oh ok were being too harsh on ourselves, let me rephrase that… a practically non-existent navy, ^^ so for David(the Philippines), engaging Goliath(China) militarily is out of the question. BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT, initially, we can utilize what this nation has in abundance… our gift of gab, also otherwise known as, a big and loud mouth that can articulate in the universal language so the whole civilized world can understand. So to Juan, Pedro and Kulas out there who ALWAYS has an opinion and a solution on just about anything, instead of harping at each other, why not focus your attention on external aggressors for once. Im happy to note… that is just what we did ^^ We raised a holler and called attention to what is happening here and we played the "underdog" card to the hilt... in the process exposed the giant and its expansionist tendencies/ambitions. And as if to further display our wit, because we have no military arsenal to display, in its official statements, the Philippine government now calls Reed Bank --->Recto Bank and The South China Sea as West Philippine Sea. WHY NOT chocnut!!! After the initial exchanges of loud accusations and diplomatic protests, everybody is now in agreement that its time to tone down the rhetorics because in all honesty we cannot afford to go into war, period, and, China for its part do not need to further tarnish its image in the world stage, hence, its toned down pronouncements lately. Now is the time to call in the experts of international diplomacy to calm ruffled feathers and pacify hurt pride.

There may be nothing but posturing in the West Philippine Sea for now but those are pretty dangerous waters out there and you better believe it. In response to China’s announcement that its largest maritime patrol ship will be dispatched in the area enroute to Singapore, the Philippine navy is sending its biggest warship for patrol operations in the same area. I just hope nobody aboard those ships decide to play with firecrackers, otherwise, Pnoy would have no choice but to call Uncle Sam and beg for help, again. what a sad thought :(

==> WILLS, KATE & JP2

Ok, just an update. By this time, I have seen the “Event”. The SHOW is over and I must say, i have to hand it to the British royal family, nobody does this kind of a show better than the House of Windsor. A fabulous production … nicely choreographed, everything was on-que. All the participants were dressed to the nines including those handsomely dressed people(royals from other countries) playing extras. I understand that the cost of the whole production is about 20 million pounds and guess who paid for it??? I saw some parts of the broadcast live and I mean from the time William and Harry arrived at Westminster Abbey up to the time Kate walked up to the altar to meet William. Saw the all-important balcony kiss on a news clip and never saw the actual “I dos”. i just have to mention that Prince Harry should have brushed and groomed his hair in place for the ceremony and his brother the groom, Prince Willliam is missing some hair …waaa…sorry, cant help it, I did notice the bald spot and the receding hairline. And of course the star of the show, The Wedding Gown... ooops, i mean, The Bride, Kate Middleton. Not as fresh and innocent looking as the late Diana …well, she was I think a nineteen year old virgin when she married Charles BUT Kate looked regal even if a bit too thin, possibly from lack of sleep with all the excitement. Her dress was a cleanly cut and very simple lace number, just a tiny winnie bit similar and reminiscent but nothing of the fabulousness of the classic wedding gown worn by another commoner who married a prince, Princess Grace of Monaco...pls compare the 2 looks and judge for yourself…
there are just a couple of things... just maybe 1 or 2 things ...ok maybe a few more, that have managed to entertain me. i was awed, amused, shocked, floored, etc. AWED by the understated elegance of the Queen, the bride's mom, the Dutch Princess...
i was quite AMUSED that Prince Charles and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall looks like they are of the same age as the Queen. but in all fairness to the both of them, Charles looks happy and relaxed, and Camilla wore something age appropriate and fit for her body type...
there were too many things happening in her look to begin with but that's the least of my problem with the whole get-up, what SHOCKED me was to see a picture of a big no-no in fashion from the British Prime Minister's wife ...the VPL(the Visible Panty Line)...
and of course, what FLOORED me was this woman who seems to have taken a dip from a pool of royal blue paint and the "thing" on the head of Fergie's daughter, what the...

i dunno about you but I'VE HAD ENOUGH of that wedding, since the local and foreign media has been bombarding us here with the same images over and over and over again for the last 3 days. having said that, here's the latest complaint from YOUR RESIDENT GROUCH, i have been scouring all the channels on TV to look for a coverage of the Beatification of a Great Pope. i understand that there is a live telecast of the actual thing later this afternoon but considering the airtime they gave a certain wedding for how many days, couldnt they have given a fraction of that coverage to a man with a great contribution to mankind? a video documentary about his life would have been an excellent example to emulate for our young people specially in this country of 90+million people, at least 80% of which consider themselves Catholics... haay... wrong sense of priorities and values dominates this world ...unfortunately.

==> WILLS & KATE

SO, am I the only one who’s not THAT interested in THIS ROYAL WEDDING?

The Philippine media strikes again… yes, it managed to get on my nerves, AGAIN! Why???

For days now, ALL the channels on free tv and on cable are all over themselves trying to outdo each other in their telecast of this event. Bombarding our tv screens with anything and everything that may be connected to this wedding, not even caring if the connection is even worthy of airtime. Do they really think it deserves this 24/7 blow-by-blow account and updates of a royal wedding AT THIS DAY AND AGE? Its not as if the british monarchy rules the world, therefore, all that they say and do matters specially to us here from the other side of the world who’s not even a part and never have been a part of the British Commonwealth. With all due respect to the Queen of the United Kingdom, lest we forget, Queen Elizabeth is a queen that doesn’t have a kingdom to rule, it is to all intents and purposes … an empty title. So why the h*ll does the News and Public Affairs Department of these tv networks spending all this money giving live telecast, sending their best correspondents halfway around the world? Cant they put even half of the resources they are spending to better use and highlight or give their airtime to a more worthy issue that could make a difference in our society?

I think I can hear some people say ..”oh, youre just jealous and envious ‘coz you don’t have royalty in this country, inggit ka lang!”. OKAY, give me a minute or two to reflect upon that accusation to test the veracity of that statement …hmmm, TOTALLY NOT. Sure, we are all curious and interested to know how the “other half lives”. Maybe to indulge ourselves a little and engage in a happy daydream OR to torture ourselves on what we couldn’t have. Dont we just looove to see their photogenic faces, their bejeweled crowns and capes and scepters, their ridiculous hats and all their excesses. What for? beats me! Whatever it may be, its just my sense of fairness and justice and misplaced priorities of our media people that’s getting to me. I love history, and the British Monarchy has a rich and long history to boast of… even I am interested in that. BUT, if I want to learn about them, id rather read a history book or watch a documentary about its past when they were ruling their loyal subjects, rather than throwing the present decesdants of that family in my face TODAY when basically nothing they do cannot be done by any British commoner …well, that is if this is a fair world.

Im not saying a news blackout of the event… im not even saying, not to cover it live. RESTRAINT is a good word for these journalist and TV networks to contemplate and reflect upon. The word they seem to be overly practicing in recent history on just about any sensational issue is …OVERKILL. Patulan ba ng paulit-ulit ang kalokohan ni Donald Trump about the circumstances surrounding the birth of their own elected president and whether he is indeed born in the US of A! I have to hand it to them, nobody can top the US media in the overkill department …wait, that’s an entirely different issue ..hehe :)

That’s about it, im done with my rant today:p excuse me while I prepare myself to watch a drama that is about to unfold. I cannot afford to miss the episode today, I want to see what our leading lady is going to wear for her big day. i'll write all about it tomorrow when i do a "review" of the episode tonight :D In this drama production, she is after all going to be a crown princess or maybe even a queen someday…well, not unless in the future, 20, 50, 100 years from now, the viewing public says they’ve had enough of that SHOW! …on second thoughts …I’ll just wait for the replay OR better yet, just watch the clip on the news tomorrow and do away with all the commercials these networks will surely overload their live telecasts with. Who says I have to or need to watch it live??? SO, to those of you who are eagerly awaiting this event… by all means, go ahead and enjoy watching. Don’t mind the occational loud and cynical accusations or discontent of moi, YOUR RESIDENT GROUCH.

==> The Hero is a HEEL

* before reading this entry, i would strongly suggest that everybody should please, please, please, take time out to watch "BATAS MILITAR" for a better understanding of this topic and to know where im coming from. it is informative, an eye-opener, entertaining, has english subtitles and IT IS AN IMPORTANT LESSON IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY(I cannot stress this enough). here are the links(1-11) for "BATAS MILITAR", each video link is just about 10+/- minutes, just click the link:

http://youtu.be/4VsyDC9gTQE

I have a confession to make …as early as last month, my fingers were already seriously itching to write about this topic BUT, for some “secret” reason I stopped myself from typing anything, not even a single word. I was happily cruising along, minding my own business until, KABOOM! …before I knew it, this controversial issue is taking center stage again and exploded in my face, taunting me to write something …daring me to say my piece. Suffice it to say, after reading other comments and opinions, some hilariously funny and well crafted, others …well it succeeded in putting me in a “ dangerously pissed” mood …knocking on my sense of fairness at the injustice! Baby, its time to let off some steam. Honestly, i avoided writing anything about this neverending controversy. Not because I couldn’t care less OR I wasn’t interested enough. On the contrary, I was just trying to avoid putting myself in a foul mood. And, writing about the Marcoses and the role they played in this country’s history is for me a sure guarantee for stress overload! But what can I do, the debate on whether to allow Marcos’ burial at the Libingan is no longer just that, BUT lately, there are clear attempts to distort history and there are people who now wants to portray the man we once ousted as a hero? In the past few days, the loudest voice came from Marcos’ former Agriculture secretary, now a congressman from Sorsogon, who filed a resolution in the house and was able to muster 200+ votes from his fellow congressmen to allow the burial of Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan. This man is Salvador Escudero and yes, he just happens to be the father of a senator named Chiz Escudero(is it any wonder why I never trusted the glib-talking Chiz, then and now?)… Whether their opinion on this issue was brought about by sheer ignorance or an honest-to-goodness opinion/values/beliefs based on strong principles, I have no idea. That is between them and their conscience …if they have one.

While it is indeed EXHAUSTING to argue over some things specially one as touchy as this, sometimes I just cant seem to dodge it, I end up being reeled slowly in. BUT for the people who doesn’t know any better …FOR the youth of this country who never knew what it was like under martial rule ...FOR the victims and their families who are still waiting for justice to be served …FOR all the misguided people with a warped sense of values …FOR all of them, I WILL CONTINUE to educate, inform and tell the story, over and over and over again, if I have to. This subject is sooo sensitive, it touches a raw nerve on some people, as you can tell, me included. You may ask, but why YOU, its not as if a member of your(meaning mine) family has been killed or tortured or raped or disappeared/abducted never to be seen or heard from again because of “martial rule”. PEOPLE, last I heard, its not a crime TO STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT. I don’t need to wait for a loved one to be a victim of an evil and sinister government for me to get involved and speak-up when there is gross injustice against my own race or any other race for that matter. IT’S THE LEAST THAT I CAN DO. Indifference and turning a blind eye, that kind of an attitude breeds evil and dangerous leaders who thinks the nation they lead and govern are their own private kingdom and all of us are their slaves with zero rights(a la Ampatuan). While I cannot do what they do, I can only admire legitimate activists who go out there in the field, scream at the top of their lungs, calling attention on important issues, hoping to effect positive changes in our society. ME, I can only do this …rant on my personal blog.

I have heard it all before, I mean opinions contrary to mine as far as THIS subject is concerned. Sure, I wanna hear them all, bring it on. If you think you can contribute something to the enlightenment of this opinionated yet humble blogger, educate me por favore. But please come prepared and review your history first before you open your mouth or type a nescient comment. I so hate arguing with people who pretends to be knowledgable on something when they obviously are not. its all out there, fully documented …the human rights victims, the court cases that has been won/lost/dismissed, the hundreds of millions of dollars recovered by the PCGG, the loot that they tried but failed to sneak in US airports when they flew to America in disgrace, the multi million dollar bank accounts in different overseas banks including a swiss account under the names of William Saunders a.k.a Ferdinand Marcos and Jane Ryan a.k.a Imelda Marcos(complete with their specimen signatures under those names!), the cronies that acted as their dummies to run businesses that they snatched from oligarchs when they dared to oppose the regime, and the list of atrocities goes on and on and on.

Ok, ok …some are arguing that at this time when our country is facing crisis after crisis after crisis because of recent world events, upheavals everywhere and destructive natural disasters, let this nation unload some of its excess baggage, and besides, the guy has been dead for many years now anyway, there are those who say, “let him be buried where the family wants to bury him and put closure on that ugly part of our history so we can all move forward”. Again …SURE, im all for closure and moving forward BUT …wait just a minute, HOLD IT, Marcos’ thick-faced descendants want to bury him in a place called “Libingan ng mga Bayani”(Cemetery of Heroes). IS THAT A JOKE? It is a joke right? But why no laughter from anybody? Oh I know, it is not a joke, they are serious, THEY SIMPLY WANT TO MOCK US! Yes US, those who think that Marcos is a thief, a tyrant, a fake war “hero” with fake medals …a power hungry dictator with blood in his hands.

What I want from the Marcos family is simple, AT THE VERY LEAST, a show of REMORSE or an ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY over the abuses that resulted from the imposition of Martial Law by that administration coming from HIS family who are now public officials. THAT IS CLEARLY CALLED FOR IN THIS CASE. The parents, the wives, the children, the family of the dead or the STILL missing, NEEDS to hear that FROM THE MARCOS FAMILY for their own closure. it doesnt even have to be an "i am sorry" a la Gloria, just a heartfelt statement of regret to those who suffered, i think would be most welcome. For once, lets put ourselves in their place to better understand their plight. Some ugly personalities would even dare to say that, “oh, those victims are a bunch of communists anyway” …ughhh, excuuuse me??? That kind of sweeping statement has no place in a civilized society such as ours, besides, differences in ideology does not mean we shoot and harass and torture and jail those whose beliefs are unlike ours. The insensitivity of a callous mind.

OK, last na to, promise ...Here’s another favorite comment that I would often hear that could only come from an ignorant mind Some say …”during Marcos’s time the Philippines was quiet and peaceful and rich!”. teka, teka, teka, sumakit yata ulo ko dyan. Tell me, WHERE DO I BEGIN IN MY REBUTTAL OF THAT STATEMENT??? Papatulan ko ba??? O sige na nga patulan ko ng konti, konti lang …when FM declared martial law, ALL the TV stations were closed down, eventually some reopened but ALL under new management …under the management of The Government of the Republic of the Philippines. In a nutshell, media was 100% controlled by government. in those days, “quiet and peaceful” does not mean everything in the country was rosy and everybody was blissful therefore no bad news, it simply means the BAD NEWS ARE NOT BEING REPORTED on TV. So there is this eerie and surreal feeling of calmness that comes from a public barred from knowing the reality of what’s going on out there. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather know what im up against versus complete ignorance and disconnect. They will let you see ONLY what they want you to see. In that scenario, do you think they will air anything ugly??? So in “Madame’s” famous words, in those days all you would see are “the true(her truth), the good and the beautiful” . And as if to prove a point, beautifully erected fences were built around the areas were informal settlers(the politically correct term these days para sa mga SQUATTER!) resides, in order to hide the “ugliness” of poverty inside. sicko! ...

...who's rich??? granted, when Marcos first came to office the US dollar was maybe 1 is to 1 against the Philippine peso OR granted, let me also buy something they always brag about, the the Philippine economy was second only to Japan when Marcos was president. MANNN, the operative word here is when Marcos first came into office . let us not forget that soon after he came into power, "Sir and Madame" a.k.a. William Saunders and Jane Ryan opened their swiss accounts and started looting the national treasury. of course, not to be outdone, their cronies did the same and "Sir" needs them to stay in power therefore he turned a blind eye. IN FACT, before they left, they left the Philippines heavily indebted by the billions of dollars that to this day Juan de la Cruz is still paying for them! So, if that is your ideal kind of society to live in, by all means worship Marcos to high heavens BUT pleeease, kung pwede lang, don’t expect the rest of us freedom-loving filipinos to embrace and swallow that kind of crap.

Look at this fine example of how outrageous these people are, even proud of their loot. I’ll let you take a guess where they got the money to buy all these… Gen. Yamashita’s treasure??? weH? Nagpapatawa ka?

I better stop myself right this minute before this entry becomes as long as a novel. So now, will somebody pleeease explain to me why a person named Ferdinand Marcos deserves to be interred in a cemetery called Libingan ng mga Bayani(Cemetery of Heroes)??? haaay ...PILIPINAS KONG MAHAL...

==> no MERCY for MERCI

Several hours ago, The People of the Philippines won. we have won a round in our looong fight against corruption in this country. The Philippine House of Representatives voted to impeach the Ombudsman.

Impeachment is a function of Congress, the House to Impeach and the Senate to Convict. The Office of the Ombudsman, is the government agency that handles complaints and prosecutes cases(mostly graft in this country)against public officials. Its head, Merciditas Gutierrez was impeached by a vote of 46 NO votes, 4 abstained and a resounding 212 YES votes in the lower house of congress. 22 DID NOT VOTE for various reasons ...hmmm, im quite positive none of their reasons can be morally justified at any cost… grrr…

To those of you who may have read some or all of my previous posts about politics in this country, you know that I have a hate-hate relationship with that branch of government. I have mocked, accused, bad-mouthed, made fun, insulted, ridiculed, etc. our honorable members of congress. It didn’t matter to me when Pnoy run on a platform of change and won, ‘coz I knew that the same clowns will be back in that same legislative halls, so I figured, why keep my hopes up when im only bound to be disappointed anyway. With our history of voting for the wrong people, can you blame me for being the queen of sarcasm and cynicism? …I guess not… BUT now......let me take my hats off to our congressmen for proving people like me(whose blood is laced with distrust), WRONG. That democracy no matter how slow and frustrating it may be, is still ideal and COULD WORK IN THIS COUNTRY …so, screw the doomsayers and non-believers that say nothing was achieved in that 1986 revolution other than removing Marcos. This historic impeachment showed what it would be like when we VOTE FOR THE RIGHT PEOPLE and WHEN GOVERNMENT INSTITUTIONS ARE ALLOWED TO WORK. i will no longer question the motives of our representatives for voting and instead choose to believe that they voted according to their conscience.
Let us dissect how they voted …here’s the HALL OF FAME and the HALL OF SHAME ...ang mga BIDA at KONTRABIDA ...at least, sa drama kagabi. im not too sure about every little detail as to who voted YES, but from what I know from recent televisions interviews, mukhang ito ang ilan sa mga bida…

I guess some of the 46 who voted NO are those whom even if you fry them alive would remain bad-to-the-bone, others are cohorts of the previous administration masquerading as representatives of partylist groups whose roots can be traced to the Arroyos, AND a family that made public office a family business. I couldn’t put all their pics, but from the pictures below I’ll let you take your pick as to who is who…

…not missing from the cast are those who ABSTAINED …wait, how do I describe this people… playing safe? …those with non-existent conviction? …unprincipled? …no mind of their own? Hmmm, I guess, all of the above huh…

…there’s the night’s alledge FLIP-FLOP'er ..first it was a NO, then it was a YES. Ano ba talaga kuya??? What do you expect …it must be the genes…

...there’s the night’s famous MIA(Missing In Action) who was sorely missed by his legion of fans and whom I understand exchanged nasty tweets with some netizens on that same night ...conduct unbecoming of a congressman Mr. Pacman, shame on you. Last I heard, he is now insisting that he said via the net that his vote is a NO to impeachment. Why am I not surprised, besides, if youre not there to cast your vote in the flesh, it is NOT COUNTED. With your NO-SHOW im afraid you missed the opportunity to shine even more in a field you vowed to excel in and to bring pride to your constituents…

…not to be outdone is another NO-SHOW. What can i say, ts people like her that gives the House of Representatives a bad name…

…finally, I hope none of you accuses me of being sipsip BUT, I have to give credit where credit is due …to the representative of my own district …KUDOS MR. CONGRESSMAN…

Before I end this, i’d like to say a little prayer for our president …I pray that when the time comes and the president will appoint the next Ombudsman, and may I repeat “when” and not ”if”, that our good lord will shower upon him with utmost discernment and whoever that person may be, that he or she remain loyal to our nation and serve it with honor and pride AND may he or she be able to withstand the scrutiny of a very cynical and skeptic nation. AMEN.

==> VAMOS RAFA !

While im not in the mood to write anything now, BUT, what can I do, a certain athlete from the island of Mallorca in Spain just made my day. Writing about him is the least that I can do after that amazing performance earlier today.

I had a feeling, when you won the French open this year that it was a major turning point in your career of choice. While it is true that i really really felt bad when you tasted that loss at the hands of Robin Soderling in 2009, now in hindsight, it was a blessing in disguise. Every great champion needs to taste defeat in order to take his game on a higher level. if you know how to win, you should also know how to pick yourself up and regroup after a defeat. That is the mark of a great champion. and it is no coincidence that in the turning point that i was referring to earlier, you defeated the same man that ended your reign in that same court only a year ago, Robin Soderling.

When you were sidelined for almost a whole year and couldnt even win minor tournaments, because of injury according to reports, I was worried. I had a strong feeling that the problem was more mental than physical. While it is true that tennis is a physically draining game, it is also first and foremost, a mental game. You lost your confidence and your focus when you were defeated in your favorite clay court and it took you awhile to get over that hump … boy am I glad that you finally did.
I would have wanted to see you and Fed in more Grand Slam finals, BUT, again, I have this feeling that as far as Fed is concerned, YOU are the biggest complex in his life now. its no wonder that several quarters noted that Fed lost to Djokovic because at that time he already knows that he will be facing YOU if he wins that match, they say, how do you explain that 5 set loss when he was leading 2 sets to 1 in a grand slam event? He is Roger Federer for chrissakes! well, some people can be sooo mean, he's only human, despite what you heard on the contrary. He was actually lucky that you were sidelined for about a year and he was able to bounce back after that back-to-back loss to you in 2008 in the French Open and in his favorite Wimbledon. With Novak Djokovic’s star on the rise, could Fed’s be on a free fall? *Fed fans, don’t bite my head off, just asking*

That was no mean feat you accomplished today, a Career Slam at 24, the youngest ever to achieve that honor. You and I really have to meet one day, I just have to see you in action one of these days. When is the question. In the meantime, congratulations are in order, Felicitaciones Rafa, bien hecho (^.^)
